The Struggles of a Blogger...

Updated: Sep 6, 2019

" Every secret of a writer's soul, every experience of his life, every quality of his mind, is written large in his works"

-Virginia Woolf

"Blogging is so easy!" they said. "All you have to do is type whatever comes to your mind!" they said.

I am not a long-term or professional blogger. At least not yet, and I don't even know if I ever will be, considering the drawbacks. But, I won't stop.

Those who say that Blogging is easy....

Well, sorry to ruin your bubble, but you're wrong! Blogging is a very serious thing, and you have to be dedicated enough to post regularly.

In order to post regularly, you need ideas or topics to write about. Choosing a topic is probably the hardest task, because most bloggers take up common ones, and you'll just blend in the crowd.

Blogging, isn't just typing everything that comes to your mind onto the computer, and posting it in the name of a Blog. No! Even if you don't get to post on a regular basis, it is important that you compensate with great ideas and topics to publish onto your blog to save yourself from being shelved on the internet.

  • You have to make sure you are on track and stay connected with the topic that the blog is being written about. You don't want to get carried away!

  • The Audience needs to be interested enough to read the entire blog. Imagine watching a movie that has an exciting trailer, but ends up being very boring. Well, its pretty much the same with blogging! You have to be creative, and quirky for the readers to stay on your page.

  • You must be careful with your choice of words. The internet is a platform which is open to various mediums and content, but there are rules that you must follow! A single violation can cause legal actions to be taken against you, or can have your blog taken down from the world wide web.

Also, even though you might not be an expert in spelling words, forming perfect grammatical sentences, or even have poor choice of words, it's okay. But, you need to make sure that your language is clear to understand for readers that live abroad.

While reviewing products or stating your opinion, you must convey it in a way where you are not degrading the brand name, or causing a social riot. There is a limit to everything. Being creative and playing safe is extremely difficult while trying to state your opinion.

  • You shouldn't drag your sentences, or discussions. Imagine reading a book where a whole paragraph, or even more are constantly dragging the story, leading it to nowhere. It irritates you doesn't it?

Well, its pretty much similar when it comes to writing in a blog. Be it sentences, or paragraphs, you should make your point as soon as you can. This makes it clean, short and sweet for the readers to stay on board.

Otherwise, it can irritate or bore them until they end up leaving the page before even reading the entire article. What is the point in investing hours in typing and editing an entire blog when the readers are leaving half-way?

My initial experience of Blogging...

Believe it or not, but I actually started this very page almost 3 and a half years ago. It used to be a place where I wrote my feelings down, like a personal diary that was online for everyone to see. (Cringe-worthy and embarrassing). When I graduated from college last year, I was going through some Emails, and found this blog site. I had completely forgotten about it for almost 2 years! Reading through those old posts, was horrifying! I immediately deleted every post, and changed the design and theme of the blog.

I started initially by Blogging about my travel experiences, and foods that I found interesting while travelling. I then realized how passionate I was in writing and how much I missed doing it!

A friend of mine once told me that I am really good, and should start a personal page, and create a theme that was only mine to keep. I am so thankful for her, and her advice, because that's when "Journeys of a Wanderlust" was born.

One person, who appreciated my work inspired me, and continues to do so as I blog about all my experiences, and put them out in the open for everyone to read, with the intention of bringing positivity ,and hopefully be able to help someone with my posts about life, or giving information through travel, opinions or reviews.

This page, is all me, and it is one of the reasons why I fell in love with myself, gained confidence, and became a better person as well as a better writer! Blogging to me, was never about popularity. I never obsess over the views I get, but I just spread the word with hope that people know who I truly am, as well as help them in whatever way I can!
